I did this portrait last week and I didn't really like it. I watched an Instagram video from an artist named Jeremy Lassila, and he was unhappy with one of his portrait paintings, he said the background needed to recede more, and he wanted to tone down the colors. So he took some burnt umber mixed with linseed oil and glazed over the whole painting, then wiped off the highlight parts of the portrait until he was happy with it. After that dried, he did a little more painting on it. I decided to try it with this portrait I was not happy with. I didn't paint on it after it dried, but I like the tonal quality of the portrait now! I may try it on another of my portraits in the future! Always learning!
